The Active Investor Plus visa is set to replace the existing investment visa categories.

Currently, migrants tend to invest in shares and bonds rather than directly into local companies. "We want to encourage active investment into New Zealand, which generates more high-skilled jobs and economic growth compared to passive investment," Economic and Regional Development Minister Stuart Nash said in a statement.
The minimum qualifying investment for the new visa program is NZ$5 million ($3.1 million), of which amount no more than 50% can be invested in listed equities. The Active Investor Plus visa will become available in September 2022.
